Historic Market Place

Bad Urach's market square is one of the most beautiful squares in Southern Germany.
Center of the historical inner city is the large market square, which is characterized by the half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th century. Its unusual trapezoid shape is topographical: above the market square, Ermstal and Elsachtal join together, and only then does the Ermstal valley expand towards the Neckarvorland. The landscape thus determines the shape of the square.
Numerous cafes and restaurants invite you to linger and the area is pedestrianized meaning only the city bus line may drive over it.
The Uracher Wochenmarkt, a weekly market on the square, continues its long tradition, taking place on Wednesday and Saturdays from 7-12 noon. It has existed for more than 130 years. The market fountain in late-Gothic style was once the most important water dispenser in the city and a meeting place for young and old. This tradition has been preserved and the market fountain is still the meeting place for the public tours on Sundays at 14:00.
