Spa taxes

As a recognised clean-air spa at the heart of the UNESCO Swabian Alb biosphere reserve, Bad Urach and its districts levy a spa tax.
The spa tax statutes for Bad Urach contain the general regulations.

Reduced spa tax for persons with a serious disability card and their accompanying carer

Visitors who spend the night in Bad Urach and have a serious disability card (over 80 % disabled) are entitled to a spa tax reduction (Section 5 Bad Urach spa tax statutes). Accompanying carers may be exempted on application from paying the spa tax if the requirement for an accompanying person is noted on the card. The accompanying person can only be exempted if they do not use any of the spa facilities themselves. (Section 4 Bad Urach spa tax statutes).
They must also complete an application and show the serious disability card: The application form can be downloaded before travelling to Bad Urach and sent to the Bad Urach Spa Authority together with a photocopy of the card (both sides). The accommodation provider will then have proof of status before the journey begins.
If you are already in Bad Urach, you can come to the Spa Authority offices and apply directly to us. We will then give you the notification for you to give to the accommodation provider. Please bring your serious disability card and your guest card with you.
You can also ask your accommodation provider to apply on your behalf. Please give him or her a copy (both sides) of the serious disability card and fill in the application form. Some places have a photocopier so that the accommodation provider can make his own copy; you just need to enquire.

Exemption from spa tax for people working in Bad Urach

Visitors who overnight in Bad Urach and who work in the town during their stay can also apply to be exempted from paying the spa tax. The application can be made informally at the Spa Authority in Bad Urach. You must either supply confirmation from your employer (this must give your name, accommodation, duration of stay and place of work) or provide the form which must be filled in and stamped. You can apply directly to the Spa Authority in Bad Urach or give confirmation to your accommodation provider when you arrive.
